Importance of learning environment in preschool

The boom of technological advancements has completely changed the way we look at things. We have set new perspectives and redesigned our point of views through exposure and research. With all streams experiencing this flip-flop, we must agree that the field of education has also experienced a revolution.

So now, parents spend adequate time researching the school, amenities provided and are also keen about the extracurricular activities adopted. After hours of internet surfing, numerous discussions and loads of thinking, finally parents make a choice for a satisfactory preschool. Here, there is one element that is most of the time missed out. It slides out of our list because it is a non tangible factor. So we generally brush aside the learning environment that a child is exposed to in preschool.

It is rightly said, ‘Provide a rich learning environment, learning becomes like air- it’s in and around us.’ When we talk about a learning environment, we don’t just mean physical space or classroom setup. It definitely has a broader spectrum. Learning environment includes every bit and every action that makes learning possible.

The curriculum that the school adopts to deliver its academic lessons, the educational technique used by the teacher, the resources provided to the students as well as the extra-curricular activities played in an outdoor setup all contribute to a healthy learning environment. Along with this, the methods used for one-to-one learning as well as small and large group learning along with peer learning play a vital role in developing the learning environment. Preschools have to adapt to knowledge based learning and assessment centered learning for better results. All these factors contribute to a healthy and calm learning environment which offers a high degree of Psychological safe environment for children to explore, experiment and enhance their learning.

The major drawback here is ‘the once adopted curriculum’ that the preschools follow for years without any upgradation and modification. With every new academic year, the needs and requirements of the toddler change. Updating the curriculum is a must for every preschool but At times, it is missed or delayed. They provide a general curriculum that can be applicable to all without understanding that the need keeps changing as per students, their calibre, their family learning background and their understanding. They provide a one fit curriculum which eventually becomes obsolete with every progressing academic year. This approach reduces the efficiency and speed of learning. The resultant is a less confident child with inappropriate holistic development.

With intense research and framework, finally there is a solution to overcome these drawbacks. Here, we focus on 42 International Key Development areas (KDA) which have to be incorporated for overall development. This let to the  invention of Edsmart which is a new age solution to this. It is a problem solver for preschools.
